Being a 21st Century Senior Is Not Easy

With a distinct rise in life expectancy due to advances in medical science, the senior citizen population is likely to triple by the year 2020.  But better life expectancy does not always equate with better quality of life.

Many elderly people suffer from a variety of diseases due to their weakened immune systems and a lifetime of unhealthy habits.  Hypertension and high cholesterol are two common conditions leading to premature stroke and cardiovascular disease.

Many seniors are in need of more human contact.  As the traditional family structure crumbles and youngsters steer away from parents, seniors, particularly in the West, find themselves alone - either in senior care facilities or retirement homes.  Many miss their children?and family.  Seniors are prone to depression, often leading to debilitating conditions.
